JACOBS PREPARING FOR JUNIOR 'A' SEMIFINALS

By Craig Rybczynski – July 22, 2010
Rochester Knighthawks forward Peter Jacobs takes the next step on the rigorous road to the Minto Cup tonight. This evening, the Six Nations Arrows host the Whitby Warriors at 8:00 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in the best-of-seven Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior “A” Semifinals.

During the regular season, Jacobs finished third on the Arrows with 62 points (27+35) in 22 games as Six Nations concluded the season in second place with an 18-4 record. This summer marked the first full season in Six Nations for Jacobs, who was acquired from the Akwesasne Indians in late June 2009. The 20 year old has become a leader on the team, as the Arrows try to win their first Minto Cup since the 2007 season.

“I'm pretty excited about the playoffs,” said Jacobs. “I think I did pretty well this year and helped my team out a lot.”

The semifinal features the Orangeville Northmen and Burlington Chiefs. The winners will meet in the Ontario Champions for the right to play for the Minto Cup. The Junior “A” Canadian Lacrosse Finals will be held in Coquitlam this summer (August 20th to 29th).

Jacobs is excited about his team’s chances in the playoffs. Six Nations won its last eight regular season games and took four of five games against Akwesasne in the opening round of the postseason.

“We have a really good team to go far in the playoffs,” he said. “If we keep playing as a team, we will do well and possibly win the Minto Cup.”

After the summer season ends, Jacobs will prepare for training camp and the 2011 National Lacrosse League season with the Rochester Knighthawks. He enters his enters his second season with the Knighthawks and third in the NLL and plans on having more of an impact.

“This experience helps me get ready for next season because every team in the playoffs steps their game up so I step my game up too,” said Jacobs.
