Defending champs make five player moves today
(November 27, 2012)…
The Rochester Knighthawks made a series of roster moves following the first weekend of Training Camp. The Knighthawks signed goaltenders Ian Duffy and Mike Matteo to one-year deals, pending league approval, while releasing Mark Farthing, Miller Rusbridge and Jordan VanDamme.

The pair of signings added depth to the Knighthawks’ goaltending position at Training Camp. On Sunday, November 25th, Duffy and Matteo were called on to fill in for Jake Henhawk, who was unable to attend Camp, and Ben VanEvery, who needed stitches on Saturday.

Duffy is the tallest goaltender on Rochester’s roster at 6-2. The Ajax, Ontario native has spent the last three seasons with the Oakville Buzz of the Ontario Junior “B” Lacrosse League. His career-best 11 wins in the regular season was third-most in the league in 2012. He also recorded a shutout in a 12-0 victory over Mississauga on May 25th.

Since 2010, Duffy has posted a 22-13 record and 6.81 goals-against average in the regular season with Oakville. He played in 11 games with the Toronto Beaches in 2010 as well. Duffy also plays between the pipes for the Brock University Badgers, who on the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association title in 2009, his first season with the team. He won six games with a 5.09 goals-against average in 2012.

Matteo is a Rochester native. He is a graduate of Eastridge High School, where he played for the school’s first varsity lacrosse team, and St. John Fisher College. He helped the Rochester Greywolves of the Senior “B” Can-Am League finish 2012 with the franchise-best 9-8-1 record. Matteo attended the Knighthawks’ Open Tryouts on October 26th and 27th. He is a longtime season ticket holder.

The Knighthawks will return to town on Saturday, December 8th, to host the Minnesota Swarm in a National Lacrosse League preseason game at The Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks will host the Swarm at 8:00 p.m. FREE Tickets are available online at Knighthawks.com. Fans must have a ticket to enter the game.
