VOTE FOR 'PLAY OF THE WEEK' - WEEK 5
02/06/2013 - 6:38pm

Every week this season, we will take a look back at the Top 5 Plays from the Rochester Knighthawks' weekend action. Fans can vote for their favorite plays from each week and at the end of the season chose the ultimate highlight from 2013.

The winner of last week’s “Play of the Week” as chosen by the fans was Cory Vitarelli’s behind-the-back goal. After scooping up a loose ball along the boards on the right-wing side, Vitarelli snuck his shot past two defenders and the Rock’s goalie with two seconds left on the shot clock.  CLICK HERE TO WATCH LAST WEEK’S “PLAY OF THE WEEK”

Here are the Top 5 Plays from the Knighthawks' home contest against the Washington Stealth on Saturday, Feb. 2. Vote for your favorite highlight from Week 5 in the NLL and see if it makes the cut as the top play from 2013.

Rochester goaltender Matt Vinc was named the NLL’s Week #5 Defensive Player of the Week Award after his best game of the season against Washington. He made 42 saves on 48 shots, holding the Stealth to a mere six goals. His performance in the net qualifies him as a “Play of the Week” candidate.

After making one of his 42 saves, “Vno” fired a full-court pass to defenseman Brad Self, who was streaking down the behind Washington’s defense. Self collected the pass and buried a shorthanded goal, scoring yet another breakaway goal.

Stephen Keogh’s hard charge to the net may not have earned the Knighthawks a goal, but his effort did not go unnoticed. Watch as Keogh lowers his shoulder on Kyle Sorensen and levels the Washington captain in arguably the best hit of the season so far.

After a display of pure strength, Keogh uses some finesse to score this goal. First, he swims over a Washington defender and then scores unassisted as he dives into the crease, giving Rochester a one-goal lead.

Johnny Powless extended his goal-scoring streak to nine consecutive games after netting Rochester’s seventh goal, the game winner, 5:12 into the fourth quarter, giving the Knighthawks their first win of the 2013 season.
