(February 13, 2013)... Every week this season, we will take a look back at the Top 5 Plays from the Rochester Knighthawks' weekend action. Fans can vote for their favorite plays from each week and at the end of the season chose the ultimate highlight from 2013.
The winner of last week’s “Play of the Week” as chosen by the fans was Matt Vinc’s stellar play between the pipes, which led the Knighthawks to a 7-6 win over Washington. Vinc made 42 saves on 48 shots for a .875 save percentage. CLICK HERE TO WATCH A MONTAGE OF MATT VINC SAVES
Here are the Top 5 Plays from the Knighthawks' back-to-back weekend road trip to Philadelphia on February 8th and Buffalo February 9th. Vote for your favorite highlight from Week 6 in the National Lacrosse League and see if it makes the cut as the top play from 2013.
Veteran forward Mike Accursi led the Knighthawks with four goals against the Philadelphia Wings in the 20-10 victory. The 16-year-pro completed the hat trick 7:06 into the second quarter with this second-chance opportunity. Accursi grabbed the rebound off the blocked shot for the put-back goal.
Vinc, a two-time winner of the NLL Goaltender of the Year Award, held both Philadelphia and Buffalo to a mere two first-half goals over the weekend. He made this acrobatic save with approximately 11:40 remaining before halftime against the Wings.
Stephen Keogh was able to slice through Buffalo defenders Derek Suddons and the 6-5, 236-pound Steve Priolo to score Rochester’s fifth goal of the game. Keogh was able to cradle the ball out of reach of slashes from both Bandit defenders while also faking a shot on Anthony Cosmo. The goal also forced the Bandits to replace Cosmo with Kurtis Wagar for the remainder of the first half.
Cory Vitarelli is no stranger to the highlight reel. He scored his second goal of the game with an over-the-shoulder shot between Cosmo’s legs. “I’m lucky that shots like that seem to go in for me,” Vitarelli said. “I hope it continues, but our offense, we just roll and everyone can do that.”
Vitarelli followed up his over-the-shoulder goal with another spectacular play. He made ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 Plays for February 9th with his one-timer off a behind-the-back pass from Keogh across the crease.
