(February 24, 2013)… The last time Rochester Knighthawks fans saw NASCAR legend Tony Stewart he was cheering the defending NLL Champions to victory at The Blue Cross Arena. Today at 1:00 p.m. the Knighthawks faithful can return the support by routing for “Smoke” as he competes in the Daytona 500 at 1:00 on FOX.
Stewart was in Rochester on February 2nd to watch the Knighthawks defeat the Washington Stealth. It was all part of Tony Stewart Night, which kicked off the NLL team’s partnership with the three-time NASCAR Champion. This summer, the Knighthawks logo will be among the sponsors on Stewart’s dirt track car when he races at Ohsweken Speedway.
Stewart ushered in the 2013 racing season with a victory last night at Daytona International Speedway, winning the NASCAR Nationwide Series season-opener. Today, Stewart will attempt to win the elusive Harley J. Earl trophy awarded to the winner of the Daytona 500. Stewart has notched 19 wins on the 2.5-mile oval, but has yet to capture one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races.
