(June 12, 2013)… The Rochester Knighthawks are back in the community on Monday, June 17th as they bring their “We Got Your Back” Anti-Bullying message to Penn Yan Middle School. Knighthawks forward and Rochester native Joe Walters will speak to the sixth to eighth graders, beginning at 9:40 a.m.

“Joe is a friend and a great ambassador for the game of lacrosse. His commitment to the greater Rochester area is immeasurable,” said Knighthawks Scout and Penn Yan teacher Brian Hobart. “I've been lucky enough to know and watch Joe play since he was in high school. I am very much looking forward to hearing him spread his message against bullying."

The appearance is the 14th anti-bullying event of the season by the defending NLL Champions. Walters was named the team’s Community Service Award winner for the past four seasons (2010-13). In May, he won his second straight National Lacrosse League Championship with the Knighthawks.

This year, the team has already conveyed their anti-bullying message to over 3,000 local school children. On May 30th, Walters brought the team’s anti-bullying message to 200 students at St. Lawrence School in Greece. The kids signed the “We Got Your Back” pledge and were rewarded with a ticket voucher to a 2014 Rochester Knighthawks game.

“Thank you so much for a great presentation. The kids are so excited and feverishly signing as I type! It was a great way to finish up our school-wide anti-bullying campaign,” wrote St. Lawrence School Advocate Karen Mersich.

Last season, the Knighthawks signed an anti-bullying pledge to kick off their 2012 season. Cosgrove Middle School in Spencerport helped the Knighthawks launch the program, which was created by Ann Marie Leonardi of Hurricanes Lacrosse.
