FIRST PLAY OF THE YEAR WINNER SELECTED
06/22/2013 - 4:50pm

(June 22, 2013)... The polls have closed on the first matchup for the Rochester Knighthawks’ 2013 Play of the Year showdown. The votes have been tallied and the fans have selected the first play to advance from the opening round to the Elite 8.

The first winner from the Defensive Region is Matt Vinc’s save against Rhys Duch in the championship game on May 11th. With an 11-10 lead, Vinc made two key saves to prevent Washington from forcing the game into overtime. With about 20 seconds remaining in regulation, he deflected this low shot from Duch with his left leg That save outlasted Vinc’s stop against Athan Iannucci against the Stealth in Week #5 of the regular season, earning 65% of the votes. “Vno” will take on the winner of the Brad Self vs. Ian Llord breakaway goal battle in the second round.

Congratulations also go out to Kim Parker from Hamlin, N.Y. for being selected as the first winning voter. Remember, one fan who votes for the winning play each week will receive a prize, so keep voting!

The next matchup in the first round in the Play of the Year bracket comes from the Behind-the-Back Goal Region. Cory Vitarelli’s Week #4 goal against Toronto will go head-to-head with Casey Powell, winner of the Week #8 Play of the Week with a behind-the-back beauty against Philadelphia. Voting for the next matchup begins Monday here on Knighthawks.com.
